Getting into the Google search index can be a bit of a hit or miss affair. For some it's as easy as visiting the Google Submission page and entering your sites details, but for others it can be a lot harder.
One of the easiest way to make your way into the search index is to get listed with a directory such as Dmoz or ClickPages, both of these are frequently indexed by Google and the sites contained within are spidered.
Dmoz can itself be very hard to get listed in, so if you are looking for a quick and easy solution Clickpages is the best choice. (Since both of these directories are free, why not submit to both).
Until recently I would have also suggested submitting to Yahoo!, but they now charge $250 EVERY YEAR! Which is just not worth the money in my opinion!
